A VAST DESERT LANDSCAPE dotted with rocky structures and monoliths. Curiously, they almost seem humanmade, though there are no signs of people here. Shrubbery and turquoise crystals are encrusted throughout the bright and sweltering dryland. Occasionally, you may stumble upon rocky terrain that is difficult to traverse.[break][break]

Mysterious obelisks with missing seals are situated throughout the desert. No one knows why they exist, or who made them.

PROMPTS
10 involve confagrigus or runerigus in some way.
13 involve quicksand, secret passages, or being buried alive.
28 encounter an immense vault (or any kind of area) filled with treasures; however, these are mirage-like illusions designed as a trap.
19 involve following a trail of durant, or their underground mazes.

The LEDs of her Iron Valiant provide some small light in the tight tunnels. Fortunately, they are not bright enough to highlight the smirk that occasionally crests her lips.

In many circumstances, her size is a disadvantage. It forces her to take two steps for a companion’s one. It makes it difficult to shop without imitating a Mankey. But, in this insectoid kingdom, she is comfortable. The ceiling is high enough to stop her from stooping. Axel, meanwhile, is often forced to slump forward as they walk from one cramped tunnel to another.

Tok! Lydia pauses as the silent, soft swish of sand is replaced by something more substantial. She can see, in the distance, a hint of moonlight. But the sky is dark and the ground treacherous. Her combat boots tap at the tile beneath her feet.

“Axel—” Her voice is a whisper, partially to ensure the Durant’s continued calm. Blue eyes widen as she follows the tiles beneath her feet. What first seemed to be a solid wall is a gap big enough for them to squeeze through. “We should go zis way. I doubt zis desert is hospitable at night.”

Without waiting to see if he follows, the veteran pushes her way past the rough sandstone wall. What she sees on the other side stuns her. It is a temple—an opulent homage to a civilization long gone. There is treasure piled up beyond a rusted gate. It is something that the structures dotting the desert implies but not something she can believe.

Faded murals cover every wall.

The room is lit by strange, flickering green flames. “Arceus…” Lydia grasps her Lugia pendant in a show of faith and amazement. “It iz beautiful.”

The light is dim, but not so dark as to be unnavigable. Finer features were, however, blurred out. Likely this was for the better, as Axel could nly imagine the look currently on Lydia's face. His experience with asymmetric warfare meant that the journey was certainly manageable, albeit hardly pleasant. Being near twice her size he was forced to crouch walk, shuffling along behind with her with perhaps surprising stealth.

When she stops he wobbles slightly, his knees straining to keep his bulk upright. Rather than reply he simply follows after her, continuing up to the gap in the wall and waiting for her to pass through. He followed just after, though it is a far tighter squeeze for him and as a result he comes out the otherside with his shirt torn and torso bloodied from the scraped skin.

Rather than complain or examine the damage he also looked about the room. Unlock Lydia the images were met with a frown, the murals none too comforting. The 'treasure' behind the far gate seemingly only served to drive the stereotype home. "Ominous I'd say. Its a good thing we have a virgin to sacrifice."[/m] He restrained a grin, but couldn't help glancing down out the corner of his eye. Her reaction was sure to be quite amusing.

As Axel emerges, Lydia turns to him with a frown. In the ghoulish light of this place, she can see the injuries dotting is torso. For a moment, blue eyes fixate on the layers of muscle beneath. A fact she is not embarrassed by. A blue-blooded man like Axel had likely taken ample chances to ogle her behind. And when with Oinkologne, there was no reason to stay out of the mud.

A hand reaches to grab a bag that is no longer there. It seemed the Iron Valiant’s escape had been closer than she had thought. All of her supplies now rested under a metric ton of sand. No doubt an artifact for some future explorer to stumble upon.

“I am all out of Band-Aids. You will have to zuck it up.” This is said in her typical icy tones though there is a teasing lilt to it. But any pleasure vanishes at his comment. For a moment, her lips pucker as if tasting a fouled lemon. A foot pauses on the doorstep of the temple. Then, she laughs under her breath. “I zuppose zo.” The woman turns as she reaches the midway point of the room.

A hole in the ceiling allows cold and sand to get in. Something snarls in the distance.

A manicured hand lifts to trace the lines of the table at its center. “But I am not sure you will fit on ze altar.” After giving her volley a moment to sink in, she turns to the far side of the room. There’s a door that seems to head inside. It’s the only way forward.

There's no noise as she steps onto the pile of stereotypical coins.
